On 8 June 2026, Women in International Security Italy (WIIS Italy), together with the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), convened the side event “Women’s Leadership in Peace and Security Policies: Participation, Representation and Impact” at the Sala del Mappamondo of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome ahead of the Capital-Level Meeting of the WPS Focal Points Network in Rome, convened by the Governments of Italy and the Philippines.

Bringing together parliamentarians, national focal points, institutional representatives, experts and civil society representatives from across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North America, the event provided a platform to explore how stronger participation, representation and leadership of women can advance more inclusive and
effective peace and security policymaking.

The side event reflected the importance of parliamentary engagement and multi-stakeholder cooperation in advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda, reflecting on the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and CEDAW General Recommendation No. 40. Moreover, it contributed to consolidating multi-stakeholder dialogue on Women, Peace and Security and to strengthening Italy’s positioning in promoting inclusive approaches to international security, ahead of two days of institutional discussions among national focal points from around the world.
