Honoring the legacy of Ambassador Francesca Tardioli means continuing to build bridges for the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.

Last week, in the evocative setting of the Circolo degli Esteri in Rome, WIIS Italy attended the third edition of the “Francesca Tardioli” International Prize.

Established in partnership with Sapienza University of Rome and in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI), the award celebrates the most innovative practices in implementing UNSCR 1325. This year, the prize was awarded to the Georgetown WPS (GIWPS), recognizing their unparalleled academic contribution to the #WPS Agenda.

Celebrating GIWPS means recognizing that rigorous research is the foundation of effective policy. As WIIS Italy, we are proud to stand with our partners in promoting an international culture of peace that is both inclusive and intellectually grounded.

Participating in this ceremony as part of the jury – alongside Undersecretary Maria Tripodi and CIDU President Giovanni Battista Iannuzzi – was a moment of profound reflection. Amb. Francesca Tardioli was a pioneer, and for many of us a source of inspiration, sharing both vision and concrete projects, as the idea to strengthen women’s roles in peace processes, starting precisely from the power of networks and professional communities. Amb. Tardioli was the architect alongside Irene Fellin behind the vision for the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network (MWMN).

Today, as WIIS Italy continues to grow alongside the MWM Network and IAI, we look back at our shared journey.
