Every year WIIS Italy organises numerous events and initiatives.

The mentoring programme aims at aiding the professional development of women working in the field of international relations, security and defence. With the support of professional experts, the programme the possibility to strengthen their skills, to share their challenges and opportunities, and to grow professionally. The programme includes individual meeting between mentors and mentees and shared trainings to further female leadership. These meetings are also a great opportunity to share experiences and knowledge within the network and to deepen the network’s relation with its contacts.

The Network of Women Mediators in the Mediterranean Area, an initiative conceived and promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in cooperation with the Italian section of Women in International Security (WIIS Italy) and the International Affairs Institute (IAI), was launched in 2017. Its aim is to respond to the need for increasing the number of women involved in peacemaking efforts, and to facilitate the appointment of high-profile female mediators, both nationally and internationally. The Network is also part of the projects funded under Italy’s third National Action Plan on “Women, Peace, Security” (UNSCR 1325).

WIIS Italy regularly organises informal events. Its networking happy hours offer the opportunity for members to share their experience and knowledge while also deepening the network’s relations. The Book Club is an initiative aimed at promoting debates and sharing interesting reads in the field of international security, foreign policy and gender related issues. It’s an informal appointment where participants meet to discuss a chosen book. The Book Club has become an opportunity to deepen the knowledge of certain topics and sharing ideas, opinions while broadening one’s own perspectives.
